Amy and her husband Jim fell in love with the 48th District when they moved to Kirkland in 2005 and have been proud to call it home ever since.
Elected to the Kirkland City Council in 2009, Amy was selected by her colleagues to serve as Mayor in 2014. She was elected to the State Legislature in 2018, driven by her belief that true leadership involves listening to diverse perspectives and creating policies that consider all viewpoints.
Amy has served as the Chief Financial Officer for companies with annual revenues exceeding $100 million for nearly 20 years. Under Jim and Amy’s leadership, Ford of Kirkland grew into Ford-Hyundai of Kirkland, becoming one of Washington State's largest volume dealerships, employing 120 people in Totem Lake and staying deeply connected with the community.
After her breast cancer treatment in 2005, Amy became deeply involved in community outreach, supporting causes like the Evergreen Hospital Cancer Center, MEOW Cat Rescue, Old Dog Haven, Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, and the Kirkland Downtown Association. She’s organized blood drives, highway cleanups, and helped lead local housing initiatives.
Amy’s priorities include affordable housing, carbon reduction, responsible gun legislation, human rights, and supporting small businesses. She is committed to improving efficiency while reducing costs for Washington’s taxpayers and ensuring our state takes care of its people and places.
Originally from Oregon, Amy graduated from university in Australia and the University of Queensland Law School, practicing law until returning to Oregon in 1994. She then pursued a career in the auto industry, where she met Jim.
Amy and Jim are the proud stepparents to Josh, Ryan, and Rachel, and are the legal guardians of her nephew Josh, who is active in Studio East and attends Lake Washington High School.
